Greece is a peninsular country bordering Southeast Europe’s Ionian and Mediterranean Seas. Its archipelago includes about 3,000 islands. 

The official name of this country is the Hellenic Republic, which is entirely different from the name of Greece. 

Greece’s total area is  131,957 sq km (50,949 sq mi), ranking it 97th by area. Its total population is around 10,302,720, ranking it 95th in 2024. 

This country was once part of the Ottoman Empire. It is said that life in Greece was possible for more than two lac years. 

History of Greece:

Sikandar Azam also conquered this country. But a few years after conquering Greece, Sikandar Azam was dead. Subcontinent to Greece, all this area was under the sovereign of Sikand Azam. 

However, the state was divided into parts after Sikandar Azam’s death. The Roman Empire also ruled over it for a long time. In 1429, when the Ottoman Empire conquered Greece, Islam started spreading in Greece. 

This area started progressing during the Ottoman Empire. Construction work increased, and many mosques were built. 

Muslims ruled this area for 400 years. They were eliminated from the area in 1800. However, after the end of Muslim rule, the population in this country started decreasing. 

When an agreement was signed between Turkey and Greece in 1923, many Muslims in Greece migrated to Turkey, and many Christians in Turkey migrated to Greece.

In today’s Greece, the Muslim population is only 2 percent, while 90 percent of the population is Greek Orthodox and 7 percent is atheist.

Greek is geographically important because it connects Asia, Europe, and Africa. This country has been included among the most tourist countries in the world. 

Regarding the rank of tourist countries, it is seventh in the world. Its population is one crore, but one crore 50 lac tourists visit Greece annually.

There is such a building on the mountain in Meteora that very few people can reach. These houses were built in the fifth century and are still present.
